The next time someone asks how you’re doing, throw in some South Pacific spice and reply, Kooshoo, you. KOOSHOO the brand name was inspired by it’s Australian roots according to their website, “Kooshoo means feeling good in Norfuk, a language spoken exclusively by the people of Norfolk Island, a small island in the South Pacific (east of the Australian mainland).”  Bet you didn’t think you’d be getting a linguistic lesson in today’s article!

Feel good vibes are exactly what comes along with organic hair accessory brand, KOOSHOO.  The brand was started by husband and wife duo, Jesse and Rachel, two awe-inspiring yoga teachers who set off on a mission to create fashion that “felt kooshoo”, and “created a positive impact in the world.”

The couple has grown the team over at KOOSHOO, which is now made of a tight-knit group of friends and family, working together with a common goal. At their core, the brand stands to combat the harmful effects that problematic materials in our clothing have on the environment. It may come to a surprise that the iconic and timeless hair staple—the hair tie—can have a negative environmental impact. I’m here to tell you that surely, it does.

The common hair tie is made of synthetic rubber and polyester that is left to sit in a landfill for 50-80 years, before they will begin to decompose.  I don’t know about you but the countless packs of 50+ bands I’ve bought over the years are now giving me wasteland PTSD.

KOOSHOO has created a band of organic hair ties, headbands, and scrunchies, free of those nasty chemicals and plastics. Unfortunately, we do not have a map to the Area-51 of hair ties to reclaim our fallen soldiers. So luckily, KOOSHOO uses GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) certified cotton, hand dyeing techniques, and partners with manufacturers who pay their employees fair wages. The hard work and mindfulness within KOOSHOO’s culture just might make you hold on to those hair ties a little tighter.

They have an entire line-up of women’s and men’s hair accessories, so even your BF can secure his man bun (if he’s into that kinda thing). The TWIST Headbands make me want to break out my yoga mat, or go on that hike I’ve been telling myself to summit. The headbands even work double time as face masks… we love a multi-purpose item!
