The FIFA 2019 Women’s World Cup is changing the game this soccer season with moves that empower our female athletes in style. For the first time since its foundation in 1991, the Women’s World Cup players are wearing uniform kits designed by and for women. Each of the 24 countries had the opportunity to create new designs separate from the traditional men’s hand-me-downs.

Brands like Nike and Adidas are sponsoring these new kits with personalized emblems, patterns, and structures to support each team’s ideals. Sweden, for example, featured the faces of their most important and impactful female role models within the borders of their team numbers.Image result for swedish women's world cup kit

The United States kept it clean and basic with an all white home kit with red and navy lined sleeves. The team stepped up their design for away games with a red kit, embellished with an overlay of the stars and stripes of the American flag.

Specifically, one of our own U.S. players, Crystal Dunn, spoke about the fight for equality in sports with women’s lifestyle blog, “A Cup of Jo.” Crystal is now involved in a lawsuit with the U.S. Soccer Federation fighting for equal compensation for all athletes. She explains that female players, like herself, are “putting in the same hours, and we’re sacrificing the same things, if not more” than men.

In pursuit of justice, the U.S. team is challenging “institutionalized gender discrimination” in all levels of the sport: unequal pay, less practice and training time, lower quality medical treatment, and the type of coaching received. However, Crystal Dunn makes it clear that she is not only a defender for the U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team, but for the strides of “women across the world, whatever profession they’re in, to stand up for what they believe in and continue the fight.”

In addition to her discussion of gender inequality, Crystal also mentioned some of her beauty and wellness favorites that support her in her training and demands for equal pay. Crystal uses the IT Cosmetics CC Cream with SPF 50+ on the daily because it provides coverage, sun protection, and hydration for her time on the field. But for her nights out, she likes to use Bobbi Brown’s beauty line for extra glam. Some of the brand’s bestsellers include the Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner, Vitamin Enriched Face Base Priming Moisturizer, and the Skin Long-Wear Weightless Foundation with SPF 15 with a 42 color shade range. When it comes to hair, Crystal keeps it simple using headbands to keep her hair out of her intense workouts. Her most recent favorites are the thin bands from Nike. And to balance out the intensity of international soccer and fighting gender discrimination, Crystal takes walks to calm her mind and body. She emphasizes how important it is to prioritize rest and relaxation.

We admire Crystal for her resilience and passion to stand up for women’s rights and we are so excited to watch her play in this year’s Women’s World Cup. She inspires all of us here at Zoe Elle to draw attention to women who empower women. Whether it’s through beauty, fashion, wellness, or advocacy, Crystal Dunn is a fighter and we are totally on board with her mission. Designing our uniforms is only the beginning.
